HEADS & HORNS COMPETITION

Help celebrate Montana's hunting heritage.

The Heads & Horns Competition is a unique, once-a-year opportunity to showcase your trophy big game animal in front of thousands of Rocky Mountain hunters who are eager to see the region’s finest big game animals and talk to the hunters lucky enough to harvest them. YOUR big game trophy will be scored by official Boone & Crockett, Pope & Young measurers and placed in the running for the winning entries. The top Montana scores will also be eligible to be entered into the upcoming, Record Book for Montana Big Game!

Each entry that qualifies for the Record Book for Montana, Idaho, Oregon or Washington’s Big Game Animals requires a $20 entry fee. Trophies, plaques, and ribbons will be awarded to top scores in the archery, rifle and blackpowder divisions for the following species:

Black Bear
Cougar
Pronghorn
Moose -Shiras
Mule Deer
Rocky Mountain Elk
Rocky Mountain Goat
Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep
Whitetail Deer
Caribou - all five species

Caribou entries will be eligible for awards but will not be eligible for entry into the Record Book for Montana’s Big Game. All entries must stay the weekend and picked up on Sunday at show close.. Entry cutoff is 6:00pm Saturday nite. Top scoring trophies have to be hung on the trophy wall for public viewing. Ribbons and plaques will be awarded at show close on Sunday and a group photo of the winners and their trophies will be taken. Overnight security is provided. Awards are given to the highest percentage based on how each individual animal scores compared to its world record species and method of harvest.

So bring that trophy in and let the tale of the tape tell the story!

FLY TYING THEATRE

Sit down, relax, and learn a little about fly tying from local fly tying experts. The Headwaters Fly Fishers will be sponsoring the Fly Tying Theater at the Bozeman show while the Magic City Fly Fishers will be sponsoring the fly tying at the Billings show. In addition, Headwaters Fly Fishers club in Bozeman will be doing fly tying demos from their booth for anyone to stop by and learn a trick or two!

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST WINNERS

Winning photos from the Outdoor Writers Association of America photography contest are on display at the Great Rockies Sportshow.

This year's exhibit includes 18 color and 6 black-and-white photos that will bring the beauty and wonder of the outdoors indoors. Experience nature through the eyes of the photographers who spend countless hours capturing the beauty in the world around us.

The exhibit also includes photos of people enjoying outdoor recreational activities. Five categories of photos are represented: scenic, flora, people, action and fauna.

Well run non-profit organizations know that in order to keep their organizations healthy they need to be at the show recruiting new blood to replenish those members who drop out each year. And what better place to find new members than at the Great Rockies Sportshow-talk about target marketing! That's one of the reasons to attend the Great Rockies Sportshow. At the show you'll find like-minded sportsmen and women with whom you can pursue your love for the great outdoors. In addition to finding and recruiting new members, non-profit organizations get a chance to raise money for their club through raffles or by selling banquet tickets. And its also a place for clubs to to do some community outreach and promote their goals and special projects. So come on by and help out these worthy groups by joining them, buying a raffle ticket or a banquet ticket and learn a little more about these organizations who love wild places and wild things!
